International Day of Non-Violence
October 2016 – I was humbled to be a part of the International Day of Non-Violence event at the Indian Consulate of New York. October 2nd was declared as the International Day of Non-Violence by the United Nations (UN) and is celebrated by all its member states. This day also happens to be the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
As I often do, I guided a discussion with 98-year-old yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch. Tao is likely the only person left on the planet who marched with BOTH Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She shared stories and insights from her incredible life and decades of activism. Former Mayor David Dinkins spoke right before Tao. It was wonderful to see him and have him meet Tao. She thought he was quite charming. Many thanks to Consul General Riva Das for inviting us.
