January 26 – 31, 2010 – I was quite honored to participate in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. The organizing theme for this 40th Annual Meeting was a call to action, “Improve the State of the World: Rethink, Redesign and Rebuild”. The program focused on six areas of inquiry and their global, regional and industry dimensions. How to:
- strengthen economies,
- mitigate global risks,
- ensure sustainability,
- enhance security,
- create a values framework and
- build effective institutions.
There were so many notables such as President Bill Clinton, King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Lee Myung-Bak of the Republic of Korea and Bill and Melinda Gates. The Young Global Leaders (YGLs) were treated to a private Meet-The-Leader session with Bill Gates. The invitation to Davos is very exclusive even for YGLs so it was nice to see a number of friends such as Christopher Logan, Francois-Philippe Champagne, Suhas Gopinath, Silverius Unggul, Kristen Forbes, Tumi Makgabo and Javier Garcia Martinez. It was also good to see H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway who knows my sister, Sheila Kennedy Bryant.
I was a discussion leader for a main WEF session on “The Economics of Happiness,” as well as co-presented an overview of “The Wellness Factor” to fellow Young Global Leaders. I also did an interview with Edie Lush for Hub Culture. Watch the video and check out pictures below from the event.
